Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post.

Life Updates

Well, friends, I’m coming to you with the last novel rewind of the summer. I start my fall semester on Monday. *cries* I’d be lying if I said I was ready to go back, but I am excited about my schedule this semester. And, god, I can’t wait to be back in choir rehearsals. I’ve missed choir SO much. This week was pretty uneventful– I worked five days in a row (my feet are about to fall off my body, lol) and spent some time getting ready for the new semester. Wednesday night, I won the ticket lottery for the touring production of An American in Paris, so my best friend and I went to the Fox Theater here in Atlanta to see it! The plot of the musical itself was kinda “meh,” but the music, the sets, and the dancing were STUNNING. It was a really cool production that I’d definitely recommend seeing if it comes through your city! Also, two of my favorite restaurants opened locations in the market where I work this week, so that’s been awesome.

Book Haul

My book buying has been out of control this summer, but I was pretty good this week! I got the first two books through #booksfortrade (I’ve already read Everything Leads to You, but I couldn’t pass up my own copy of one of my favorite contemporaries). I had no idea Rhiannon McGavin (one of my fave YouTube poets) had any of her work published, so when I found out Branches existed, I ordered it immediately. I can’t wait to read it!

Books Read/Currently Reading

Read:

This was a mixed reading week for me. I enjoyed Persepolis, but the ending felt SO abrupt. I buddy read Wintersong with Sydney @ Sydney’s Shelves, and it was so… slow. That story had SO much potential, and there were definitely things about it that I loved (the musical elements! the retelling!), but the pacing was way off for me. And it was suuuuuuper unnecessarily angsty. I finished the book and felt like nothing had happened as far as plot. I listened to Stalking Jack the Ripper on audio, and I really enjoyed it! Can’t wait for the next one (also, I would definitely recommend the audiobook). Spell on Wheels was the graphic novel of my DREAMS, omg. Witches + road trips + diversity among the characters + feminist themes… it got a glowing five stars from me.

Currently reading:

I just started listening to this audiobook, and I can’t wait to get further into the story. I hear nothing but great things about it!

Currently Obsessing Over

I don’t have any new obsessions this week! I’m still listening nonstop to Dodie Clark’s new EP, You, which I mentioned in last week’s rewind. And still obsessing over all my favorite podcasts that I’ve mentioned 19083472673 times before in these posts, haha.

How was your week? What are you currently reading or obsessing over?
