Weekly Novel Rewind (6)

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post.

Life Updates

Hi everyone! It’s just me (Madalyn) on the rewind post this week. It’s been a long and stressful week of apartment hunting, running errands, and trying to get everything squared away with my part-time student teaching assignment for next semester. I also haven’t been sleeping very well (which is usually a sign that my mental health is about to take a turn for the worse). Needless to say, this hasn’t been a great week, but I’m hoping to get in some much-needed time for self-care this weekend. I’m excited to be participating in the BookTube-A-Thon next week, though! My TBR for that should be up tomorrow. Plus, the day this rewind goes up is pairing day for round seven of the OTSP Secret Sister Project! It’s always so fun to find out who your new sister is and do some sleuthing into her interests (this sounds creepy, but I promise it’s not, hahaha).

Book Haul

Thanks to the lovely people I traded with on Twitter for these pretties!

Books Read/Currently Reading

A bit of a slow reading week for me, compared to the rate at which I’ve been finishing books recently. I adored both Little & Lion (incredible representation and a great contemporary) and Wild Beauty (beautiful prose, and it was SO SO wonderfully queer). Strange the Dreamer was a letdown for me, if I’m honest. Laini Taylor is still one of my favorite authors in terms of her prose, but I thought the actual plot and structure of the novel were poorly executed.

Currently Reading:

I’m currently listening to this on audio, and this audiobook is beyond incredible. Seriously, all I want to do is lay around the house and listen to it. Even though it’s (literally) been five years since I read The Diviners, this story immediately pulled me right back into its world. I love all of the characters (plus, there was a Gemma Doyle cameo, and I am SHOOK). Cannot wait to finish this one!!!

Currently Obsessing Over

Haim, Something to Tell You // I cannot stop listening to Haim’s new album. It’s full of bops for summer and, UGH, these sisters are ridiculously talented. Strangely, I think my favorite song on the album might be the comparatively mellow and reflective final song, “Night So Long.” (Also, if you haven’t yet seen the music video for their single “Want You Back” yet, do yourself a favor and go watch it right now. You’re welcome.)

How was your week? Did you do anything fun or get any exciting new books? What are you currently reading or obsessing over? Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. I’m really looking forward to both Little & Lion and Wild Beauty – so glad to see you liked them! Sorry Strange the Dreamer was a bit disappointing. I still haven’t gotten around to reading it, but my library recently got a copy so hopefully I’ll get to it kind of soon (although looking at my track record, probably not, haha).
I hope you’re able to get some awesome self-care in this weekend and feel a bit better. <3

  2. Aww! <3 I'm sorry it's been a stressful week. I hope you're able to get some sleep, and the signs of your depression flaring up are just a false alarm. Apartment hunting tends to be super stressful for me as well, so I feel you. I hope you find something soon and this coming week is easier on you.

I hadn't heard of Little & Lion, but I'm so excited you loved it and now I need to read it too. I didn't get all the hype for Strange the Dreamer either. I was really bored reading it. And epp! You loved Wild Beauty! SO EXCITING!

    Take care, Madalyn!

    • Thanks so much, Nick! <3 You should definitely pick up Little & Lion! It was a great contemporary with awesome representation in terms of race, sexuality, mental health, and family. Yeah, Strange the Dreamer was incredibly slow… I really do not understand the hype. Omg, Wild Beauty was just as wonderful as I expected.

Currently reading Uprooted. Which is a very polarizing book. I happen to fall into the really enjoying it category.I need to check out Haim. I’ve been listening to my Linkin Park stuff since the news about Chester broke. It hurts my heart.
