Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post.

Life Updates

Hi, everyone! Sorry for the lack of a rewind last week– I’ve been keeping busy between my new job and trying to do all the fun, summery things around Atlanta! I finished my last week of job training this week, which is exciting! I’m loving it so far. Friday evening, my friend and I met up to grab a drink at a local pub, and the area of town we were in actually was putting on an arts festival that night! It was cool to walk around and browse all the shops. I also went to brunch at one of my favorite spots with my best friend Saturday morning, and afterward, we went shopping for a couple new outfits (her, for her new job; me, for BookExpo next week). Otherwise, I’ve just been finalizing plans for BookExpo and BookCon next week! Are any of y’all going to be there?

Oh, also, I uploaded my first BookTube video in over a year this week! I’m equal parts nervous and excited to get back to BookTubing regularly again.

Book Haul

Library:

All of these audiobook holds came in this week! I’ve wanted to read Pachinko forever, and I’ve been on such a kick with reading memoirs lately that I had to request the other two.

For Review:

Books Read/Currently Reading

Read:

I read some very different books over the past two weeks! I have… very conflicting thoughts on Everything Here Is Beautiful. I’m honestly not sure I’m ready to talk about them yet, but suffice to say that I personally found the depiction of mental illness extremely upsetting, and the ending could be really harmful to a lot of readers. In brighter news, Wild Blue Wonder and Royals were both FANTASTIC YA contemporaries. Text Me When You Get Home was a bit of a dud– it felt very flat and, at the same time, the organization was all over the place. I reread my favorite book of last year, The Girl with the Red Balloon, and– BIG SURPRISE– I bawled. The Spy with the Red Balloon was wonderful, and I loved learning more about the magic system in this world. Blame It On Bianca was exactly what I expected– if you’re a fan of Bianca Del Rio’s humor, you’ll like it.

Currently Reading:

I started the audiobook for Girl, Wash Your Face, but I’m not too far in yet! I honestly have no idea which physical book I’m going to pick up next, haha.

Currently Obsessing Over

Xocolatl Kissed Mermaids chocolate bar // I recently fell in love with this particular chocolate bar from a local chocolate company– it’s dark chocolate with coconut milk, vanilla-infused sea salt, and cacao nibs. IT’S SO GOOD BUT IT’S ALSO SO EXPENSIVE PLZ SEND HELP FOR MY WALLET.

How was your week? Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What are you currently obsessing over?

  1. Sounds good about your job 🙂 oh, I wish I got to go to a bookish event (stranded in a tiny country in Europe xD). Have fun there 🙂

I would also love to read Pachinko. That’s such an amazing cover! Haven’t seen that version yet.

  2. Being busy with fun, summery things in Atlanta sounds awesome!! Hope you have an amazing time at BookExpo and can’t wait to hear all about it. Girl Wash Your Face is an audio I want to listen to so I can’t wait to see what you think. Have a great week!

    • Yes!!! I like doing things at the beginning of summer, before it gets too hot to be outside lolol. I am trash and STILL haven’t finished Girl Wash Your Face, but I am enjoying it so far!

  3. Madalyn your busy week in your life just sounded divine. Love just hanging with friends, having no plans and art stalls…yes please! I’m not even going to talk about the shopping! I desperately need to go shopping with my girlfriends, but everyone just has their own lives and family, we struggle to have a meal together let alone shop 😣

    Enjoy BookCon!

  4. Yeah! I am glad to hear Wild Blue Wonder was good. I loved Sorosiak’s debut, and am looking forward to it. I adored Royals. It was super cute. I hope the sequel will feature the same characters, because I love to attend the wedding. Have fun in NYC. Due to my daughter’s move, I will be in Chicago, and sadly, will miss BookCon. It’s the only big bookish event near me too. –sigh–

    • I definitely want to read more of Carlie Sorosiak’s books after enjoying Wild Blue Wonder so much! I cannot WAIT for the next Royals book. I’m sad you couldn’t make it to NYC, but I hope the move went well!
