Weekly Novel Rewind (11)

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post.

Life Updates

I hope everyone had a lovely and relaxing long weekend! I had the best time in Orlando at BookNet Fest– my wrap up for that went up earlier this week, if you wanna check out what I got up to there! School- and life-wise, this was a quiet week, for the most part. It’s looking more and more like Hurricane Irma might hit my city, so I’m keeping an eye on that going into the weekend. I’ll probably go wait out the storm at my brother’s house in the suburbs instead of staying in my fifth-floor city apartment! If you or your loved ones are in the path of the storm, please, please stay safe!

For Review:

Books Read/Currently Reading

I listened to Sleeping Giants on audio, and the audiobook was one of the best I’ve EVER come across (it’s in the same vein as the Illuminae audiobooks, almost podcast-style with a full cast of narrators). I’m itching to get my hands on the sequel, but since my library doesn’t have it, I’m stuck waiting until my next Audible credit comes in. Giant Days, Vol. 1 was cute, but I’m not sure I liked it enough to continue the series.

Currently reading:

Ugh, guysssss. I’m in a terrible reading slump right now (as evidenced by the fact that the only two books I finished this week were both in non-traditional formats). I’m really enjoying Speak Easy, Speak Love— I promise, I am!– but it’s taking me FOREVER to get through. HELP.

Currently Obsessing Over

Upbeet // My friend Jamee took me to this new-ish spot here in Atlanta this week, and I really loved it! It’s kind of like Chipotle, but for making your own grain bowls and salads. The bowl I tried was DELICIOUS, as was their matcha lemonade! They also have smoothies, smoothie bowls, and a coffee bar that I can’t wait to try. I definitely see this becoming one of my go-to “fast food” places in town!

How was your week? Tell us about what you’re currently reading and/or obsessing over in the comments!

  1. Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that you might get hit by Irma!! Seeing the destruction in the Caribbean is so heartbreaking. Hopefully it won’t be nearly as bad for you.
I am glad to see you’re enjoying Speak Easy, Speak Love even if you’re in a slump. Fingers crossed you’re able to get out of your slump soon!!

  2. Oooh I wanna listen to the Sleeping Giants audiobook now; I’ve been wanting to read it for awhile but hadn’t considered the audiobook version! And the restaurant you mentioned sounds delicious!

  3. I’m currently reading Watch Me Disappear by Janelle Brown, which I was super happy to get my hands on from my library! And, because of your post, I’m eager to check out Sleeping Giants Please be safe through Irma! I hope you have a pile of books and some candles to get through it.

    • Ooh, I haven’t heard about that one! *goes to Goodreads* Sleeping Giants was so fun! And thank you– it ended up just being super windy and rainy (we never even lost power), but I did get two days off school, so that’s a plus! haha.

  4. Oooooh, Upbeat sounds like my kind of place! It’s a franchise? I’ll have to see if there are any locations near me (definitely keeping this one on the radar!).

Also I haven’t heard of Sleeping Giants–but that’s great that the audio was so phenomenal! Will have to add to my reading list. Hope you made it out okay with the storm this weekend!! XOXO

    • I’m pretty sure their only location is in Atlanta for now, but it’s totally the kind of place that has potential to be a chain. Definitely keep your eye out for it! Yay, glad I could put Sleeping Giants on your radar. It was great! Thanks so much! <3
