Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is all about authors– ones we can’t believe we’ve met, as well as those we’d kill to meet. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many of my favorite authors, but I’ve compiled a list of the ten author encounters I’ve fangirled over the most (complete with pictures and stories when those things exist). Onto the list!
madalyn’s top ten
Leigh Bardugo // I met Leigh at Decatur Book Festival 2014, a few months after Ruin and Rising came out. I would love to meet her again, though, because I am total Six of Crows trash and would love to discuss the duology with her!! Fun fact: I was the very last person in line at this signing, which was pretty lame, BUT it did mean I was the only person who got a picture with Leigh.
Stephanie Perkins // I met Stephanie at my local indie bookstore in November 2014, on her tour for My True Love Gave to Me. She is genuinely one of the loveliest authors I’ve ever met!
Libba Bray // AHHHHH. Still freaking out about this. If you know me, you know that Libba Bray is one of my top three favorite authors of all time. I met her at Decatur Book Festival 2015– I believe Lair of Dreams had just come out. Not only was she hilarious, but she was so kind and humble! My signed copy of A Great and Terrible Beauty (one of my all-time favorite books; also the reason I made it through middle school) is one of my most prized possessions.
Sarah Dessen // Also met her at Decatur Book Fest 2015! It was pretty awesome to meet the queen of contemporary. She’s probably one of the most popular authors I’ve met. (Also, it may not seem like it, but I am actually dying in all of these DBF photos. Atlanta summer + waiting in line in the hot sun, sometimes for hours = a very sweaty combo).
Brandon Sanderson // GOODBYE, WORLD. The funny thing about this is that it was total coincidence– I wasn’t even at a signing or anything; I ran into him as I was headed to a panel at DragonCon 2016. I just had to ask for a selfie, because, like Libba Bray, he’s definitely in my top three favorite authors (hence the low-quality photo)!
Victoria/V.E. Schwab (bonus appearance by Zoraida Cordova) // DBF 2016. Rounding out my list of my top three favorite authors! In fact, Victoria is probably my all-time favorite. I fangirled SO HARD when I met her! My entire Schwab collection is signed now as a result of this. I also really adored her panel! She’s super well-spoken and interesting. #SchwabIsQueen
Morgan Matson // Probably my favorite contemporary writer! I met her last summer, and it was by far one of the best author interactions I’ve ever had. She really took time to chat with each person who came, and she even brought her own Polaroid camera and took a picture with everyone! I also really enjoyed learning about her as a person and a writer. (I look like an ACTUAL GHOST in this photo, lol)
Angie Thomas // I just met Angie a week ago! She came to my local feminist bookstore on her tour for THUG. It was an amazing discussion– she had some TRUTH to spill about the publishing industry, y’all. She was also super fun to talk to!
Becky Albertalli // One of my forever faves. <3 Becky is local to me, so I see her at lots of Atlanta bookish events and have met her tons of times. This photo is from the most recent time– she moderated the discussion with Angie Thomas (see above). I will never get tired of meeting her and talking to her about her fantastic books.
Adam Silvera // I’ve met Adam many times now. I originally met him at Decatur Book Fest 2015, and we had an awesome conversation about sexuality that held up the signing line for 10+ minutes. We’ve been friends ever since! The second picture is from Decatur Book Fest 2016, and the last is from the most recent time I met him– on his tour for History Is All You Left Me (ft. Becky Albertalli again!).
