Top 10 of 2018: I Ship It!

Hi, friends! Welcome back to another day of Top 10 of 2018! Top 10 of 2018 is a week-long blog event hosted by KimberlyFaye Reads that gives us the chance to look back on bookish favorites from the past year.

Today’s topic is “favorite couples,” and I had a lot of fun coming up with this list. Let’s get into all of my 2018 OTPs! All of these books were released in 2018, as well.

madalyn’s top ten

Cardan/Jude, The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King by Holly Black | Talk about a slow burn, dude. These two can’t decide if they love or hate each other, and I live for it. (Although lowkey, I really need them to bang in The Queen of Nothing.)

Mairwen/Rhun/Arthur, Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton | File under: the polyamorous trio I needed. I truly love all three of them together and cannot imagine it any other way.

Cristina/Mark/Kieran, Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare | See above. But really, Emma and Julian can MOVE ASIDE, because this is the only ship from TDA that I care about, tbh. These three love each other so much and are all so happy together and I’m emotional about it.

Teodora/Cielo, The Brilliant Death by Amy Rose Capetta | A fantasy romance between two genderfluid shapeshifters? Iconic. I loved it.

Val/Marion, Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand | Sawkill Girls was decidedly average for me, but one of the things I LOVED about it was the queer rep, and this f/f ship in particular was really beautifully done.

Leah/… Leah’s love interest, Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli | I don’t wanna say who Leah falls for, because that could be considered a spoiler. I know a lot of people really disliked this pairing, but I highkey loved these two together!

Stella/Michael, The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang | These two had me swooning on every page. Also, their relationship and their communication was so healthy, which was refreshing to read!

Daniela/Carmen, We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia | (This isn’t technically contemp, but I wanted my two categories to be even, okay?) This is the best 2019 release I’ve read so far, and a huge part of why I loved it was the ship. Two queer, Latinx women burning down their misogynistic, classist, heteronormative, oppressive government together? YES, PLEASE.

Bitty/Jack, Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu | The cutest, purest cinnamon rolls from the cutest, purest graphic novel.

Zorie/Lennon, Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett | The only thing better than friends-to-lovers and enemies-to-lovers is FRIENDS-TO-ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS. So much sexual and romantic tension; it gave me life.

Did you discover any new OTPs this year? Do you share any of mine?
