(This is not actually a book tag, but I’m too lazy to make a new graphic right now, lmao.)
I saw this post over on Grace’s blog a while ago, and I’ve been meaning to do it ever since! I try to sneak in a not-strictly-bookish post on the blog every now and then so that y’all can get to know a bit more about me. Original credit goes to this blog, but like Grace, I’ll be doing Lauren’s version, which features some extra questions she added to make the tag longer. Anyway, let’s get into the categories!
Three things I’d never give up || Books, caffeinated beverages, beauty products
I’ve been a reader my entire life. It’s informed so much of the person I’ve become, not to mention it’s helped me through all of my darkest patches. I cheated with “caffeinated beverages” because I love both coffee and tea equally and probably couldn’t give up either one of them. I drink them both every day, and I wouldn’t be a functional student, employee, or human without them. Beauty products probably makes me sound vain, but it’s true. I’ve loved all things makeup and skincare since my teen years, and I just don’t think I’ll ever be a person that goes totally natch. I love the process of my beauty routine too much to give it up. Putting on makeup gives me 10-30 minutes of much-needed introvert time to myself before I go out and face the world every day, and skincare does the same thing for me when I get home at night.
Three favorite vegetables || Zucchini, mushrooms, onions
I love zucchini because it’s so versatile. It’s a staple in my kitchen, as are mushrooms! Funnily enough, I used to LOATHE onions, but now I love them and I can’t imagine any stir-fry being complete without them.
Three favorite fruits || Peaches, bananas, blueberries
Listen, I love ALL fruit, so this was hard to narrow down. Bananas and blueberries are both staples for me, and I mean, as a lifelong resident of The Peach State, I couldn’t exclude the best fruit.
Three shows I watched faithfully from beginning to end || Parks & Recreation, Glee, Smash
I tuned into Glee and Smash religiously as they were airing. Maybe not the most quality television in the world, but they’ll both always have a place in my heart. (Especially Smash. #gonetoosoon) I watched the first six seasons of Parks & Rec my freshman year of college, just in time to watch the seventh season as it aired every week.
Three places I want to visit inside the US || Alaska, Maine, Denver
Alaska is my top domestic travel priority for this year. I can’t believe I haven’t gone yet! I want to visit Maine because it’s a part of the country I just haven’t explored. My brother just moved to Denver, and the photos he sends are ridiculously, impossibly beautiful. I have to go see it for myself.
Three places I want to visit outside the US || Peru, Chile, Norway
These are the next places I want to visit! My family is actually planning a trip to Peru in 2019, and I can’t wait! I hear the food in Lima and Cusco is fantastic, the country is beautiful, and of course I want to see ancient sites like Machu Picchu. I wanna visit Chile because I love South America and am dying to see more of the mountains. I hear Santiago is a very cosmopolitan city. I loved Argentina and have heard the cultures in the two countries are pretty similar. Norway is on my list because, along with Finland, it’s one of the last countries I need to visit in order to say I’ve been to every Scandinavian country.
Three things I always have with me || Phone, lipstick, water bottle
In addition to, obviously, using it for communication, I can also read on my phone via the Kindle app or through audiobooks. I always have whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day in my purse. I’m a person who has to constantly be drinking water, so I always, always bring a water bottle with me. #hydrationnation
Three qualities I like about myself || Wit, observation skills, friendliness
I’d like to think I have a pretty quick wit. I also am an incredibly observant person, which often comes in handy. And, despite being an introvert, I love meeting new people and I try my best to be a welcoming, outgoing person.
Three qualities I dislike about myself || Cares too much about what other people’s opinions, avoidance of stressful things, easily overwhelmed
Part of it is due to social anxiety, but I am often focused on the way other people view me to a crippling degree. I’m always worried about how others might judge my body, my makeup, my clothes, my life choices, my singing voice, my conducting, LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE. I hate my tendency to avoid all the stressful things in my life, which, as any rational person knows, just makes for a much more stressful situation. Lastly, I get overwhelmed very easily and just wanna hide out under my covers until some of my obligations go away.
Three most recent movies watched || Idk if you guys know this about me, but I am SO not a movie person. I avoid them at all costs.
Three things that are always in my car || N/A
I don’t have a car right now, so.
Three most recent phone calls were to/from || Spam caller; my mom; spam caller
LOLOLOL yep, sounds about right!
I had to read 6 Glasses for AP World History, and to this day, it’s one of my favorite nonfiction books. It was such an engaging way to cover such a dense topic. East of Eden was for an Honors English class, and I’m pretty sure every single person in my class ended up loving it. It brought up a lot of questions I still think about. Hedda Gabler is a play, not a book, but it’s maybe my favorite thing I read for assigned reading in high school. There’s so much social commentary to unpack for such a short work. I also, selfishly, loved seeing all of the misogynists in my class get uncomfortable by our class discussions of the portrayal of the oppression of women in the play.
Three most often used makeup products || Brow pencil, mascara, lipstick
As previously established, I wear a decent amount of makeup on a daily basis, but I’ll be satisfied with these three products in a pinch. They highlight all the important features on my face.
Three pet peeves || People at airports; privileged people who don’t acknowledge their privilege; dishes left in the sink
Listen, as someone who has been traveling my entire life, I have to say it: PEOPLE’S BEHAVIOR AT AIRPORTS IS SO SH*TTY AND APPALLING. Oh my god. Airports truly bring out the worst in people. I get that it’s a place of stress and anxiety for lots of people, but maybe don’t yell at your gate agent or run people over to get onto the plane first? We’re all about to be hurtling across the sky in a giant metal tube, dude; you’re not special. I hate having political discussions when people don’t acknowledge their privilege or the fact that said privilege colors aaaaallll their interactions with the world. As for the dishes… just put them in the dishwasher??? It’s literally right there???
Three things that make me laugh || Drag Race; my group chat with my three best friends; Twitter
Man, Drag Race can always make me laugh. My friends and I all have the same dumb sense of humor, so our group message (which is called “four life kitties”) always cracks me up. And, I mean, come on, who doesn’t laugh at least once while scrolling through their Twitter feed?
Three things that make me cry || BOOKS, choral music, hormones
Books are the main culprit here, but choral music is a close second. I say “hormones” because when I’m on my period, I literally cry about seven times a day, minimum.
Have you done this tag? If so, drop a link in the comments; I’d love to read it! Do you agree with any of my answers?
