10:00 a.m.
The principal of Opportunity, Alabama's high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.

10:02 a.m.
The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.

The auditorium doors won't open.

Someone starts shooting.

Told over the span of 54 harrowing minutes from four different perspectives, terror reigns as one student's calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival.

I honestly don’t even know how I’m going to write a review that will do This is Where it Ends justice. I can sit here and say ‘that was seriously the most gut-wrenching, emotional and heartbreaking book that I have EVER read.’ Which it was, but that’s not enough.

A Parent’s Worst Nightmare

School is a place that is supposed to be safe. We drop off our kids in the morning thinking they will be learning things vital for their future. We never think that we’ll get that call saying that our kids are in danger from a shooter in the school. That is something that happens somewhere else, to other people. At least that’s what we think. But, the truth is, it can happen anywhere, at any time, to anyone. A lot of people may not read this book for the tough subject that it deals with, and while I can say I hope this situation NEVER happens, the fact is, it already has.

A Book That Opens Your Eyes

This book was made so much more powerful due to the fact that it’s told in multiple POVs. Not only do we get to see the chaos erupting inside the school through the eyes of some of the students trapped inside, but we also get to see it through the eyes of those who weren’t present for the actual shooting, but who were still affected tremendously.

Heartbreaking and Emotional

To say this book is heartbreaking is an understatement, after all just look at what the plot of this story is. The fact is I have never cried so much during a book, I knew some bad things were going to happen, but I wasn’t expecting the full force of emotions that would overwhelm me. I cried so hard, and I just wanted to protect those kids with everything in me. I wanted so badly to turn out differently, or just be a nightmare that you could wake up from.

A Story That Won’t Be Forgotten

This is Where it Ends is a book that won’t soon be forgotten. The emotions I felt while reading this book were so intense, and this story was so tragic, I know it’ll stick with me for a long time.

  1. The synopsis was enough to get me hooked and OMG I’M SO HORRIBLE. IT’S ALREADY IN MY AMAZON CART!!! Honestly all the feelings you’re describing here are exactly what I felt when reading Not If I See You First. I’m so excited to start this one when it comes haha AND AWESOME REVIEW OMGGGG

  2. I’ve been hearing nothing but great things about this book, Christy, but I’m SCARED to read it. It’s such a real situation and every time something like this happens in real life, it devastates me. I can’t even begin to imagine how reading about it through the POVs of all these characters will make me feel. This is definitely a book I need to think about, but I’m glad to hear that it was executed so well.
    Beautiful review!

  3. Oh wow, this sounds amazing! I’m actually really scared to read it since it sounds really heavy, but books that open your eyes to the dangers of the real world are the ones that SHOULD be read and appreciated. I’m just going to prepare a lot of tissues for this one.

  4. The last 2 reviews that I read for this book had me rethinking about reading it. I just finished a book with a similar plot, but was focused on one character. I’m not sure about all the POVs yet. Great review!

  5. This is one of my most anticipated books. I think it is such a scary but interesting premise and I do like multiple POVs – if done right. I am always up for an emotional read so I will definitely have to get this one when it comes out. Great review!

  6. I NEED this book in my life! I haven’t really read many reviews on it because I really want to go into it without any preconceived notions, but I’ve been looking at ratings. That being said, I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Christy! That makes me feel a whole lot better about reading it. 🙂
