#ShatteringStigmas Part II: Introduction!

Stigmas (2)

Guys, I am so excited that I will be hosting part 2 of Shattering Stigmas. Before I get into welcoming you guys, I want to thank Shannon & Inge for allowing me to join them in this wonderful event. I am so grateful for them and I just am thrilled to be a part of this extraordinary event.

Anyways, welcome, welcome! I am so glad that there is another year of this event. Allowing people to share their stories about mental health and/or sharing books that have dealt with mental health and have touched them…it is such an amazing experience. Just seeing how many people wanted to take part was miraculous. I am thankful for you all and I hope you all enjoy the wonderful stories and posts you will be seeing in the next two weeks.

So, this is my first time doing #ShatteringStigmas but it isn’t first for some of the other ladies so I want to lead you over to at least one of their posts from last year. They had an introduction into the whole event and reading that will be a lot easier than me having a massive post about what this event exactly is (here is Shannon’s post from last year!). I want this post to me about why I chose to take part and be a host. So without further ado, here’s a little more about that.

Erica’s Reason

I want this post to be positive, for the most part, so I will veer away from some of my reasons as to why I wanted to be a host and take part in this event…but you will be seeing those reasons later on. I will be sharing some stories of my own in the next two weeks so hopefully you guys will learn more about me and my reasons then. I just wanted to say the main reason for being a part of this. My family.

My family has gone through so many ups and downs and dealing with mental health within my family has been really hard. But, it also has been such a huge learning experience. Last year, I was featured on Shannon’s blog. I was able to share the story of my cousin, Patrick, who passed away. He had committed suicide. It was a very tough time for my family. I will be going more into this later as well, I have a post about him again.

Anyway, my family was a huge influence. I want to share my stories about our heartache because I want people to know that you are not alone, you are not the only one, you have someone to support you, you are loved, you are beautiful, you are kind, you are funny, you are smart, you are caring, you are sweet, you are loving, you are bright, you are brave.

  • Yay, we’ve launched! ♥ I’m honestly so excited for this event, and I’m so happy to have you guys hosting with us! I especially love your final paragraph — a lot of people forget to be kind to themselves so it’s nice to hear it from someone else every once in a while. 🙂

& thank you, I thought it was totally needed because it is nice to have that reminder sometimes!

  • I am so excited that you decided to join this amazing event! Shattering Stigmas was such a great event for the book blogging community last year, and I have really high hopes for this year’s lineup. I found a ton of inspiring stories and amazing books through the event already. You guys have a great host of bloggers willing to help and I cannot wait to read everyone’s posts!

  • I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of this before. I think it’s so important to talk about mental illness, and I think sharing your stories can help you cope and everyone else understand what you and your family went through as well. I love the idea of this, and I think it is SUPER AWESOME that all of you are doing this.

If there a part three next year, I would love to be a part of it.

This is a beautiful idea, kudos to you guys!
