"I've left clues for you, and clues for the police. They'll be searching for you. The evidence at the scene of Officer Knight's death is enough to send you both to jail."
"Who am I searching for?"
The Voice laughs. That strange, dangerous laugh. "Me, of course."
It was supposed to be just one more ridealong, a night when high schooler Melissa Latham accompanies her father on his patrol. But when a psychotic killer targets them for a wicked game, the night turns into a high-speed chase where there is no prize for second place.
They have to find a killer before he murders the next one of their friends.
They have to find a killer before they are caught and charged for the murder of the men he's already killed.
They have to find a killer… before he finds them.
This book was absolutely outstanding. The story is told in first-person, from the main character, Melissa. The book starts off with you learning about an accident her father had. You are taken on a journey as soon as this story begins. Mel doesn’t want to leave her father after the accident…she definitely doesn’t want him going back to work. With her unease she heads out with him for a ridealong – a perk of being a cop’s daughter.
Once the ridealong starts…it starts off rough. A dispatch comes on the radio and it’s not a voice Detective Latham has heard before. This voice, the voice of Jack, is eerie and is leading them to the scene of a murder. The murder is set up to look like the Latham’s committed it. What does the voice ask of the father and daughter? He wants them to find out what really happened at the scene of the accident.
This book is surrounded around the pair trying to find the killer before he finds them. Everything is done so well and I could not put it down. I finished this in one sitting. Definitely a fantastic thriller that I highly recommend. You never know what is going to happen and you have so many different thoughts going on in your head. I went back and forth between a few people and once I realized who it was…all I can say is, wow. The author wrote this book flawlessly.
The reason I took a half star off was the writing. You may say, well Erica you just said he wrote this flawlessly. Yes, he did, the storyline. The writing style was a little lacking for me. It was such a simple way to write and I wanted a little more depth out of it, but other than that. PERFECTION. I cannot recommend this book enough. It kept me at the edge of my seat. It is definitely going to stay with me awhile.
