ARC Review: Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno

There are always a few books every year that, from the very first page, you know are going to land among your favorites of the year. Don’t Date Rosa Santos was one of those such books for me. It’s a gem of a YA contemporary that deals with identity, history, family, culture, and home, set against the whimsical backdrop of a tiny Florida beach town. Add in a swoony romance, a generations-long curse, a deeply likable and relatable MC, and some excellent representation, and I was SOLD. Let’s first talk about Rosa, our main character and the sweet baby angel overachiever of my heart. Rosa is one of those characters who I read about and was immediately like, oh, yep, […]

ARC Review: Love à la Mode by Stephanie Kate Strohm

As soon as I saw Love a la Mode, I was here for it. Two teens falling in love at cooking school in Paris? YES, PLEASE. I’m happy to say this one didn’t disappoint! I’ve been describing this as a  more diverse, less problematic version of Anna and the French Kiss, but with endless delicious food descriptions. Basically, the perfect YA contemporary, tbh. In Love a la Mode, we follow two perspectives: there’s Rosie, an American from a small Ohio town who juggles her love of baking with taking care of her mom and siblings; then there’s Henry, a Chicago native who grew up in the kitchen of his father’s Korean restaurant. Both of them have been accepted to famous […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Little Do We Know by Tamara Ireland Stone

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. It’s a feature where we show off one of our most anticipated upcoming book releases. Where we tend to add more books to your never-ending TBR. madalyn’s waiting on… why i’m waiting I really enjoyed Tamara Ireland Stone’s Every Last Word, which I read a few years ago, and Little Do We Know sounds like such a Madalyn book(TM)! I adore best friend stories, and of course I love YA contemporary. This one sounds like it will be just the right balance between emotional and feel-good. I can’t wait to pick this one up when it releases! Are you also excited for Little Do We Know? What book are you waiting […]

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

A List of Cages has gotten a lot of praise from throughout the Bookternet leading up to its release, and with good reason. Roe has produced a stunning debut novel that explores friendship, family, abuse, mental health, trauma, and growth. This story is raw and occasionally heartbreaking, but at its core, it’s hopeful. I read A List of Cages in one sitting on a plane ride– I simply could not put it down. The story is told through two points of view. First, we have Adam, a popular high-school senior who also happens to have ADHD. I can say with confidence that Adam is one of the most genuinely kind, pure-hearted characters I have ever read. He’s just such a good […]

This Is Our Story by Ashley Elston

I have been dying for this book ever since I read the summary months ago.  We all know that I’m a sucker for a good thriller so it should come as no surprise that I snagged this book as soon as I could.  I had actually preordered it from Amazon but for some reason it was delayed and then when I got my November MyBookBox, it was the signed YA pick and I was so excited. I think my favorite aspect of this book was that it was narrated by our MC, Kate, as well as the one of the River Point Boys.  I think this added so much extra to the story. Kate was very easy for me to […]

The Killer In Me by Margot Harrison

The Killer In Me by Margot Harrison

My Thoughts When I first saw the book The Killer In Me I knew that it was a book that I just had to have.  I’m a sucker for a good twisted book and this one definitely sounded very twisty.  I mean, did you read that summary? It sounds twisted as hell. On the outside, Nina seems like a ordinary 17 year old girl, but Nina’s world is darker than it seems.  See, Nina has a front row seat into the mind of a serial killer and she has for as long as she can remember.  Nina doesn’t know why she has this connection with a killer whom she calls, The Thief, but it’s there and it’s about time she […]
