review policy

To Authors/Publishers:

We want to thank you for reading through our review policy. We know it may be long, but we want you to be sure that reaching out to us is the right choice! It would be wise to take a look through our review archive to see what types of books we typically review on this blog.

We read both YA and Adult fiction and are happy to accept review copies from publishers and/or authors. We will look at every request sent to us, but will only accept the books that pique our interest. We will consider both print books (Madalyn is based in the US; Bee is based in Belgium) and Kindle e-books for review. We also occasionally accept audiobook formats for review.

The books that we accept for review do take priority, but we will wait until a month prior to the release before posing the review unless otherwise requested by the author/publisher. All of our reviews include our honest thoughts and rating on the book, so if you’re looking for only favorable reviews, you might want to look elsewhere. We also reserve the right to not post a review of your book should we not feel comfortable doing so for any reason.

Reviews will also be published on Goodreads and can be cross-posted on Amazon and/or other retailers if requested. Additionally, links to reviews will be shared to Twitter and other social media.

Authors and/or publishers may use any part or all of our review for promotional purposes.

If you would like us to read a book that is part of a series, we ask that you also provide us with the predecessors.

Genres we will consider:

  • Young Adult fiction
    • Contemporary
    • Romance
    • Historical fiction/historical fantasy
    • Fabulism and magical realism
    • Fantasy
  • Adult fiction
    • Contemporary
    • Literary fiction
    • Romance
    • Short story collection
  • Nonfiction (Madalyn only)
    • Essay collections
    • General nonfiction

Additionally, we always give precedence to books by and/or about marginalized people. Spotlighting diverse and #ownvoices books is a huge part of our goal as bloggers.

We will not accept review books from the below genres:

  • Memoir
  • Biography
  • Self-help
  • Erotica
  • Science-fiction
  • Poetry
  • Middle grade

NOTE: We will only respond when accepting your request.

FTC disclosure

Although we sometimes get free books to review, we do not get paid for any of our reviews. All reviews are based on our own opinions and are in no way influenced by the source from which we received the book. If we receive a book for review, we will include a disclaimer at the top of our review for that book.

All book info (cover, summary, etc.) comes from Goodreads.

We are Amazon and Book Depository affiliates, which means that if you click on a link that takes you to one of those retailers and you purchase something, this blog gets a tiny percentage back. We love doing giveaways but don’t always have the funds to do so; this will help with that.
