Monthly Novel Rewind: June 2018 | The sun is out to get me.

Novel Rewind is our version of a wrap-up post, where we discuss what we read and what we’ve been up to during the past month, as well as what’s ahead in the coming month.

You’ll notice that it’s just me (Madalyn) on the recap today… which is because my lovely co-blogger, Bee, just had her baby!!!!! Go send her some congratulations (and also go look at how ADORABLE Emma is. seriously, she’s so cute I can’t even). <3

our most anticipated july release

I’ve heard great things about this one from friends and reviewers I trust, and it sounds like it has everything I love in a YA thriller!

The new favorites (AKA the books that saw into my soul): Odd One Out; To Be Honest

The one I expected more from: When Katie Met Cassidy

The solid new releases from old favorite authors: City of Ghosts; Little Do We Know

The one I couldn’t put down: Sadie

The most beautifully written: The Looking Glass

life & what’s happening

Clearly, the end of June was a little hectic for me, hence this post going up two weeks into July! Toward the end of last month, my computer hard drive completely freaked out, and I ended up having to get my hard drive replaced… which is why I haven’t been able to post for about two weeks! I was going stir-crazy without being able to blog or post YouTube videos.

Anyway, June was a wonderful month!! I started the month off in New York with my best book friends at BookExpo and BookCon (here’s part one and part two of my BEA recap, ICYMI), and I ended the month back in NYC for New York Pride. I also worked my second month at my new job, which I am absolutely loving so far. Mostly, June was a lot of work, travel, and spending time with friends!

Our favorite ‘grams from this month!

I LOVE this photo of my friends and I at the Goodreads party in NYC during BookExpo // NYC Pride with my fave Delta drag queens

next month

Welp, we’re already halfway through July (oops), but I’ve already been to New York for a THIRD time this summer– this time, with my best friends to see Harry Potter & the Cursed Child on Broadway. WHICH WAS AMAZING AND INCREDIBLY MAGICAL AND I CAN’T WAIT TO TELL Y’ALL ALL ABOUT IT BUT YOU’LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MY JULY RECAP.

The rest of July will mostly entail me working as many shifts as possible to make up for all the money I spent in NYC over the past month. Seriously, RIP to my bank account. Also, my favorite band, The Avett Brothers, is playing a concert after a Braves game here in Atlanta later this month, so I will absolutely be attending! I’ve already conned my group of friends into going with me.

king of the month

No surprise here! Odd One Out made me feel so seen, and I fell in love with this friend group and their complicated feelings for one another. I only wish teen Madalyn had had this book. I think it’s really important to have YA stories featuring protagonists who are questioning their sexuality and their labels. And, as always, Nic Stone’s writing makes the characters jump right off the pages. It’s so approachable. Definitely preorder this one!

How was your reading month in June? Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What have you guys been up to since we last talked? Let’s chat in the comments!
