life & what’s happening

Happy New Year, friends! We made it to 2018. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, whatever you celebrate. December was the month of nonstop travel for me (I took seven flights this month). First, I finished up my finals and headed to San Francisco to visit my bookish BFF, Emily @ Possibly Literate! I had a BLAST. We ate some amazing food, drank lots of coffee, saw some sights, and went to a giant Dickens Christmas Fair. I also got to hang out with Joce @ SquibblesReads while I was in SF, which was amazing. <3 After that, I headed home to my parents’ house in Florida two separate times to celebrate the holidays– but not before going out to a fancy dinner to celebrate Christmas and exchange presents with my three best friends. Finally, I ended my year with a quick, semi-spontaneous trip to Brussels, Belgium! It was a beautiful city, and I had so much fantastic food, beer, and chocolate while I was there. Omg. I spent NYE at home with a glass of prosecco, a face mask, and a giant blanket, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way (I also hosted my first ever Twitter chat, which was fun!). How did you all celebrate the New Year?

Our favorite ‘grams from this month!

While it snowed at home in ATL, the weather was absolutely perfect at Crissy Field in SF // Emily, Joce, & I doing all the Christmas things!

The GORGEOUS Grand-Place in Brussels // Christmas markets 4ever

next month

Hmm… hopefully this month won’t be too exciting. I start the spring semester, but that’s about all I have planned at the moment, honestly. I would really like to go somewhere over MLK weekend, though, so hopefully I can get my act together and plan something. Also, two of my best friends have birthdays this month, which is exciting! One of them is turning 21 (she’s the youngest one in our group of friends), so we’ll probably take her out to celebrate. Honestly, I’ve felt kind of… stuck lately. Not bad (actually, my mental health has been surprisingly good lately), just stationary. So hopefully I can get past that this month!

king of the month

I mean, yeah. WOW. I expected to enjoy Evelyn Hugo, but I didn’t expect it to grab my heart and not let it go the way that it did. I felt so much for these characters. None of them are traditionally “likeable,” but that just made the story all the more real and human. Plus, the central relationship is f/f, and it was breathtaking. A new OTP for sure. I still get choked up thinking about this book because of all it means to me as a queer woman. This is a story I’ll treasure for a long, long time.

How was your last month of 2017? Did you have a good holiday season? Let’s chat in the comments!
