Madalyn’s October TBR + Most-Anticipated Releases!

Posted October 2, 2017 by Madalyn || 12 Comments

Hi, friends! I don’t always do monthly TBR posts on the blog, but lately making TBRs has really helped me to focus my reading each month. I find that I read more when I have a set list of books I want to get to in a given period of time. So, without further ado, I bring you my TBR for the month of October! I also like to include my most-anticipated releases for the month in question in these TBR posts, so I’ll talk a little about those, too.

The November Girl comes out next month, so I will definitely be reading that one in October. Luckily, it sounds super atmospheric and perfect for fall. Nice Try, Jane Sinner doesn’t come out until January, but I’m itching to read it, like, now. I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things!

Storytime with Squibbles Book Club Pick

October is the inaugural month of the book club my lovely friend Joce is starting! Her pick for this month is Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo. I’m so excited to read it! I already picked up a copy, and I trust Joce’s taste in books more than I trust anyone’s taste in anything, pretty much. If you’re interested in joining the book club, here’s a link to the Goodreads group!

October Releases

October is a GREAT month for book releases, but these are the four I’m definitely going to get to this month (mostly because I already have these preordered or am going to author events where I plan to pick up a copy). I actually read Dear Martin back in July, but it’s one of my favorite books of this year, and I think I might reread it after I pick up a finished copy at Nic’s release party! (For the record, I’m also SO SO SO excited for Ta-Nehisi Coates’s new book coming out this month, but I just don’t think I’ll get to it in October.)

Backlist Books

I’m trying to do better at reading my owned physical books, and these are some I had on my shelves that felt perfect for fall reading.

That’s it for my TBR for October! What book are you most excited to read this month? Have you read any from my list?

  1. I think it’s great that you set a tbr for the month, I’ve tried to do that but I never stick to it lol. All of your new releases look great, I’m so looking forward to Before the Devil Breaks You and Turtles All the Way Down!

    • I used to never be able to stick to monthly TBRs, but my reading habits have changed a lot over the past year, and part of those changes is that I can now apparently stick to reading plans, haha. BEFORE THE DEVIL BREAKS YOU IS OUT TODAY AHHHHH!

  2. I’ve seen so many people talk about Turtles All the Way Down, but I’m not sure if I want to read it because the only John Green book I’ve read is The Fault in Our Stars and I didn’t love it as much as everyone else did. The November Girl has such a beautiful cover, I may have to pick it up out of sheer cover lust alone 🙂

    • Totally understandable! His books tend to be quite hit or miss for me, and I acknowledge that he’s said/written some problematic things in the past, but I bought a ticket to see him on your when he comes to my city and the ticket included the book. I will definitely let you know my thoughts! I’m so excited to get to The November Girl!

  3. I can never stick to monthly tbrs but I love doing seasonal ones. A Monster Calls is a beautiful book. It’s one of my favorites, and the movie is actually really great as well. So excited for That Inevitable Victorian Thing, and Turtles All the Way Down is one that I’m really interested to see people’s thoughts on before picking it up!

    • I love seasonal TBRs, too! I just finished A Monster Calls a couple nights ago, and it was gorgeous. I need to watch the movie now! I will definitely update you on my thoughts on Turtles, and here’s hoping we both love That Inevitable Victorian Thing!

  4. So many creepy books for fall! I’m eager to get my hands on The Creeping after reading Sirwoy’s The Telling this summer and loving it! I also have been DYING to read A Madness So Discreet ever since it came out — McGinnis is one of my favorite authors. I’m also looking forward to That Inevitable Victorian Thing and Before the Devil Breaks You! Wonderful TBR, and happy reading! 🙂

    • I have never read an Alexandra Sirrowy, so I’m really excited to give her writing a try! I’m currently reading A Madness So Discreet, and it’s perfect for October. Yay for all the new releases this month! I hope you enjoy all of them! <3

  5. What a fantast TBR pile! I hope you enjoy a good chunk of these books. I’m super excited to get the new John Green book but also am really intrigued by Dear Martin. I already know I’ll more than likely love both, but!
