Madalyn’s Novel Rewind (14)

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap up post.  The three of us will be alternating weeks. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post.

Life Updates

I finished my classes for this semester! Hallelujah. I am so ready to put this school year behind me and relax a bit. Now, only a few finals stand between me and the official end of the semester. Last Sunday was Easter, and I had so much fun hanging out with my family on my grandparents’ farm and seeing all the new baby calves (I even got to bottle-feed one!!)! This weekend is our opera production for the semester, and I can’t wait to go see my wonderfully talented friends perform one of my favorite operas! They’re doing a film-noir style production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, so there’s really no way it won’t be amazing. Otherwise, I’m hoping to get some hours in at work this week while I have some downtime, and, of course, I’m hoping to get in some quality reading time.

As for blog updates, ICYMI, I’m looking for a co-blogger (or two) to help me out here at Novel Ink! I would love some of you to apply. 🙂

Book Haul

Bought:

I saw that the Kindle edition of Salt by Nayyirah Waheed was free on Amazon right now, and I immediately jumped on it! Nayyirah Waheed is one of my favorite Instagram follows; I just adore her poetry. I’ve heard nothing but phenomenal things about this collection!

Traded:

Thank you to everyone who traded with me! <3

For Review:

My review copy ban has officially ended! I’m finally caught up on reviews. Girls Made of Snow and Glass sounds incredible– it’s a feminist retelling of Snow White (and I thiiiiink there might be an f/f relationship?)! The Love Interest is one of my most-anticipated releases of the year, so I’m super excited to be participating in a blog tour for it!

Books Read & Currently Reading

Read:

It was a great reading week! Duels & Deception was super cute (review here). The Names They Gave Us was beyond incredible and I’m still trying to gather my thoughts enough to draft a review. I haven’t felt this kind of emotional reaction to a book in a long while. Just know you all need to preorder it. Seeking Mansfield was okay; I’ll have a review up for it soon. 🙂

Currently Reading:

Y’all. I am LOVING this one so far.

Currently Obsessing Over

Listening:

What’s the Tee? with RuPaul and Michelle Visage // I mean, y’all know I love Drag Race, and so I really don’t know why it took me so long to get around to listening to Ru’s podcast. It’s fantastic, funny, and endlessly entertaining.

Sam’s New Thing

“Sam’s New Thing” from NPR // NPR has been piloting Sam Sanders’ (formerly a host of my beloved NPR Politics Podcast) new podcast over on the NPR One app! It doesn’t have an official title so far, but I am really enjoying it. I just love Sam Sanders as a human!

That’s all for this week! What books did you pick up this week, and what are you currently obsessing over?

  1. YAAAAAAAAY! Congrats on finishing classes! I’ve got two more weeks of classes and then two weeks of finals. -_- It’ll be over before I know it though. I’m so glad you loved Duels & Deception! I’ve seen a lot of people excited about Girls Made of Snow and Glass, and I’m so happy that you’re off your ban so you can read it. 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a great weekend, Madalyn. =)

Yeah to the end of classes for another year! Good luck on finals. Sounds like fun with the family and I think baby cows are adorable. Enjoy your new reads:)

Good luck with your finals! I’m so excited to read The Names They Gave Us, it just sounds like it’d be right up my street, and hearing what you have to say about it makes me 10x more excited.

  4. Good luck on your finals and I hope you have a great summer, Madalyn. I still have until the end of June for my term to end, but I’m dying for it to be here already. I was dying at your baby calves pics on Twitter! Baby animals are so cute and lovable. All animals are but babies are extra special!
I loved The Names They Gave Us too, so I’m thrilled that you loved it as well. It really was an emotional story for me as well. I was bawling by the end.
    Have a good week, Madalyn!

    • Thanks, Nick! It’ll be over before you know it, but hang in there in the meantime! Omg, the new babies were too cute. I’m hoping to make it back to the farm next month, because my grandma has FIFTEEN cows due at the end of April/beginning of May. FIFTEEN. BABY. CALVES. I am so excited, haha. I’m so happy you loved The Names They Gave Us! Same here– I shut the book and just cried for a solid ten minutes. I hope you have a fantastic week! 🙂

I’m really interested in both of those review books, I’ve heard such good things! Hooray for finishing classes, that’s always a good feeling 🙂 I’ve been in a very Star Wars mood this week so I’m reading Ahsoka by EK Johnston (it’s really good!) and some SW comics. Need to get back to the review books soon though!
