The Dead Inside: Spotlight & Giveaway

The Dead Inside: Spotlight & Giveaway

Spotlight: NOTE TO READER You’re not going to believe this. Seriously, nobody does. But this stuff happened, right here in America. In the warehouse down the street. The warehouse had a name: Straight, Incorporated. Straight called itself a drug rehab for kids, but most of us had barely even smoked weed. Take me, for example. In September, at age thirteen, I smoked it for the first time. I tried smoking again in October. In November, I got locked up in Straight—for sixteen months. The second we entered the building, we all stopped being kids. We stopped being humans. Instead, we were Straightlings. Other than my father and me, each person you read about here has a fake name. Many of […]

Pretty Fierce: Spotlight & Giveaway

Pretty Fierce: Spotlight & Giveaway

Spotlight: One of my favorite things about writing PRETTY FIERCE was trying to figure out what Kaia would do next. I don’t consider myself to be particularly brave—except for the fact that I don’t mind public speaking which is one of those things that keeps people awake at night. But I imagine that if I were ever in a situation like Kaia is in—being pursued by bad guys, hunted down at every turn, forced to try to protect the man I loved—I’d probably end up a ball of blubbering mush in a corner. So when I was writing her, I would try to imagine the exact opposite of what I would do in a given situation, and then write that. […]

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

Oh my gosh, this book, y’all!  This freaking book. IS. SO. DAMN. GOOD.  I just don’t really know where to even start with a review.  I just loved every thing about The Upside of Unrequited and I have a feeling that it’s going to be extremely difficult for me to express just how much I loved this book and why you should drop everything and preorder it right now. I’ll start with the characters.  Molly, our MC, was such a wonderful character.  I loved watching her grow throughout the book.  When we first meet her, she seems very timid and very careful when it comes to matters of the heart.  I loved watching her break out of her shell and […]

Most Quotable: When We Collided by Emery Lord

Posted February 27, 2017 by Christy / 3 Comments

I absolutely loved When We Collided by Emery Lord but when I was trying to write my review, I was struggling.  All to often I struggle to review the books that I love.  I don’t know why it’s easier for me to review a book that had flaws or one that I didn’t care for.  Anyone else have that problem? So to make it easier on myself and so that I don’t sit here staring at a computer screen all day trying to piece together my thoughts and to express how much I loved this book, I figured I just say I loved this book and you should read it and then share some of my favorite quotes to entice […]

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

Before I say anything else, let me say this. This book is seriously dark and it will not be for everyone. The things that happen in this book are disgusting and the fact that everyone acted like it was no biggie made this a very difficult read for me and it’s something that will turn a lot of readers off. With that being said, the writing and the mystery is what kept me going even though I was seriously disgusted with most of these characters. It’s no secret that I loved Engels YA duology, The Book of Ivy, so when I saw another book with her name on it, I immediately added it to my TBR without first reading the […]

Christy’s Novel Rewind (20)

Posted February 18, 2017 by Christy / 7 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap up post.  The three of us will be alternating weeks. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Happenings I always struggle with this section on the Rewind posts because I feel like I say the same things over and over again because my life isn’t that exciting haha so I think I’ll skip it this time because I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my exciting nurse, wife and mom life haha. Book Haul Bought: I got all of these hardcovers on BookOutlet and I’m so excited for them! I’ve already read Blackbird and while I didn’t love it, I’m still going to read Deadfall […]

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

This book called to me when I read the summary, it sounds exactly like the type of book that I would like.  I mean, a book about a top secret agency? Yes, please! But this book was so much more than I  was hoping for. Reagan is no stranger to lies, in fact lying to the people around her, parents excluded, is pretty much the only thing she’s ever known.  You see, her parents are part of a top secret government agency called the Black Angels.  As you can imagine, living in that world isn’t very safe so Reagan and her family have had to move and switch identities, a lot.  For Reagan though, Ohio is different, these friends are […]
