The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

Oh my gosh, this book, y’all!  This freaking book. IS. SO. DAMN. GOOD.  I just don’t really know where to even start with a review.  I just loved every thing about The Upside of Unrequited and I have a feeling that it’s going to be extremely difficult for me to express just how much I loved this book and why you should drop everything and preorder it right now. I’ll start with the characters.  Molly, our MC, was such a wonderful character.  I loved watching her grow throughout the book.  When we first meet her, she seems very timid and very careful when it comes to matters of the heart.  I loved watching her break out of her shell and […]

Most Quotable: When We Collided by Emery Lord

Posted February 27, 2017 by Christy / 3 Comments

I absolutely loved When We Collided by Emery Lord but when I was trying to write my review, I was struggling.  All to often I struggle to review the books that I love.  I don’t know why it’s easier for me to review a book that had flaws or one that I didn’t care for.  Anyone else have that problem? So to make it easier on myself and so that I don’t sit here staring at a computer screen all day trying to piece together my thoughts and to express how much I loved this book, I figured I just say I loved this book and you should read it and then share some of my favorite quotes to entice […]

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

Before I say anything else, let me say this. This book is seriously dark and it will not be for everyone. The things that happen in this book are disgusting and the fact that everyone acted like it was no biggie made this a very difficult read for me and it’s something that will turn a lot of readers off. With that being said, the writing and the mystery is what kept me going even though I was seriously disgusted with most of these characters. It’s no secret that I loved Engels YA duology, The Book of Ivy, so when I saw another book with her name on it, I immediately added it to my TBR without first reading the […]

Posted February 18, 2017 by Christy / 7 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap up post.  The three of us will be alternating weeks. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Happenings I always struggle with this section on the Rewind posts because I feel like I say the same things over and over again because my life isn’t that exciting haha so I think I’ll skip it this time because I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my exciting nurse, wife and mom life haha. Book Haul Bought: I got all of these hardcovers on BookOutlet and I’m so excited for them! I’ve already read Blackbird and while I didn’t love it, I’m still going to read Deadfall […]

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

This book called to me when I read the summary, it sounds exactly like the type of book that I would like.  I mean, a book about a top secret agency? Yes, please! But this book was so much more than I  was hoping for. Reagan is no stranger to lies, in fact lying to the people around her, parents excluded, is pretty much the only thing she’s ever known.  You see, her parents are part of a top secret government agency called the Black Angels.  As you can imagine, living in that world isn’t very safe so Reagan and her family have had to move and switch identities, a lot.  For Reagan though, Ohio is different, these friends are […]

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

My Thoughts I honestly have no idea how to even begin to review this wonderfully written, pure magical, and gorgeous book.  I feel like no matter what  I say, it won’t be enough to do this book justice. Caraval is everything I never knew I wanted in a fantasy book.  The enchanting world within these 400+ pages absolutely blew me away.  The world of Caraval is so imaginative and the author writes this world in such a way that you feel like you’re right there with Scarlett and it truly feels like you’re experiencing the game as well. Remember, it’s only a game… Scarlett is told from the very beginning that it’s only a game and to be careful not […]

Blog Tour: Because of the Sun by Jenny Torres Sanchez

Because of the Sun Blog Tour Interview With Jenny Torres Sanchez If you could only use three words to describe Because of the Sun, what would they be? Surreal, Ferocious, Hopeful What was the hardest part of writing Because of the Sun? This wasn’t an easy novel to write, but at the same time, it did just sort of unravel itself in a way my other books have not. I was able to keep going without hitting too many walls. Maybe the hardest part was getting Dani right. I really wanted her to be numb because I feel this is what incredible pain can do to you, leave you stunned and shell-shocked. But I also wanted her to be someone […]

Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven

Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven

Holding up the Universe is a book that went on my ‘must-have’ list after reading and loving Niven’s first book, All the Bright Places.  Niven’s writing just speaks to me and I couldn’t wait to read about Libby and Jack. Libby Strout, once known as America’s fattest teen, has lost 300 pounds and is heading back to high school.  I absolutely loved how strong Libby was, I loved the fact that she didn’t care what anyone thought and she didn’t take shit from anyone.  She stood up for others and herself and as much as everyone bullied her, she never gave up and she didn’t let it waver her belief in herself.  Libby is the definition of a strong and […]
