Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates Hi, everyone! Wow, it’s been a minute since I sat down to actually *talk* to y’all like this! It’s FINALLY starting to feel like fall in Atlanta, and I’m enjoying it so much! This weekend, I have a fun Halloweekend planned! I’m going to Halloween parties both Friday and Saturday night. Next week, my friends and I have plans to get together and marathon the Harry Potter movies, and I cannot wait. In more […]

ARC Review: A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

ARC Review: A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

As a fan of Tahereh Mafi’s writing but not of the genres she tends to write (dystopian, middle grade), I was ecstatic when I saw she was publishing a YA contemporary (well, contemporary-ish. it’s set in 2002). I’m so happy A Very Large Expanse of Sea exists. I think it fills a void for a type of story that hasn’t been told in YA literature, and I hope it finds a home with many readers. I’m struggling to put together my thoughts on this book, mostly because it’s the kind of quiet story that sneaks up on you. A Very Large Expanse of Sea is very much a slice-of-life story, and in true Mafi fashion, is very romance-centric. It follows […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Lost Coast by Amy Rose Capetta

Waiting on Wednesday was created by Breaking the Spine, and is now hosted by Wishful Endings (as Can’t Wait Wednesday). It’s a feature where we show off one of our most anticipated upcoming book releases. Where we tend to add more books to your never-ending TBR. madalyn’s waiting on… why i’m waiting Two major reasons: 1.) it’s written by Amy Rose Capetta, and 2.) the synopsis includes the words “queer teen witches.” Also, creepy forests. I AM SO READY. What book are you waiting on this week?

ARC Review: The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

ARC Review: The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

After reading and loving Jasmine Guillory’s The Wedding Date last year, I was thrilled to get my hands on an ARC of her follow-up, The Proposal. And it did not disappoint! It had all of the things I loved about TWD, with a fun new premise and endearing new characters. The Proposal begins with our main character, Nik, being proposed to unexpectedly in front of 45,000 people on the Jumbotron at Dodgers Stadium– a nightmare for most people, but especially so when Nik has only dated this guy for five months and is most certainly not in love with him. Enter our hero, Carlos (who you might remember from The Wedding Date!), who manages to rescue Nik from the camera […]

Guest Post: Finding Solace in Stories | Shattering Stigmas 2018

Posted October 16, 2018 by Madalyn / 0 Comments

Hello, and welcome to another Shattering Stigmas guest post! Today, my lovely friend Emma is here to talk about how she became a reader and how that’s part of her identity. Let’s get into her beautiful words! (P. S. Be sure to check out the masterlist of Shattering Stigmas 4.0 posts so that you don’t miss any content from our five wonderful hosts!) emma’s story I grew up with a live oak in my backyard, a gangly giant beast of a tree, tall and unmoving, arching against our house. I spent my entire childhood swinging on a red piece of wood harnessed to its largest branch. I was always an imaginative child, creating elaborate stories and fantasies where I was a […]
