Weekly Novel Rewind (35)

Posted August 25, 2018 by Madalyn / 11 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates Hi, everyone! Long time, no weekly rewind. My personal life has been kind of turbulent as of late, and I’ve been feeling kinda down. I’m starting to get my blogging mojo back, though, and I have so many things coming up that I’m looking forward to. As for this week, it was quite uneventful– just getting in as many hours as possible at work. This weekend I’m working once again, but I also have some plans with friends which I’m excited about. I am gearing up for Decatur Book Festival next week, though! It’s always one […]

ARC Review: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

ARC Review: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Victoria Schwab does it again! I mean, is this woman even capable of writing a bad (or even subpar) book? Though I’m not normally a middle grade reader, I will read anything with Schwab’s name on it. I am so glad I picked up City of Ghosts, because this is exactly the kind of middle grade story I’ve been missing. City of Ghosts follows our protagonist, Cassidy Blake, after her parents move their family to Edinburgh, Scotland for the summer to film a TV show all about ghosts and the paranormal. The only problem? After a drowning accident the previous year, Cassidy can see ghosts. And also happens to have a best friend who’s a ghost. Not exactly a welcome […]

10 Excellent YA Contemporary Books that Flew Under Your Radar | August Monthly Recommendations

Posted August 21, 2018 by Madalyn / 17 Comments

Monthly Recommendations is a Goodreads group created and hosted by Kayla Rayne @ Kayla Rayne and Trina @ Between Chapters… and, as of recently, also co-hosted by April @ April Sarah and myself! I would love if you joined the Goodreads group and posted your recommendations for the topics every month (or just the months you feel like posting)! This month is the group’s three-year anniversary, so we’re throwing it back and revisiting our first-ever topic: underrated books. I have so many underrated favorites, so to narrow it down a bit, I decided to focus solely on YA contemporary releases from the last few years that I feel like people are sleeping on. These also all have less than 700 Goodreads reviews. Whether you’re a contemporary lover […]

ARC Review: To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin

ARC Review: To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin

Content warnings: fatphobia (addressed); eating disorders Wow, I enjoyed To Be Honest so much more than expected. This book had #ownvoices fat representation, excellent family dynamics, and a swoonworthy romance. It gave me everything I enjoy in a YA contemporary. Plus, it was thoughtfully done and deceptively deep, based on the brightly-colored cover. I really enjoyed Savannah herself as a protagonist. I saw a lot of myself in her, both as a fat woman and just as a person. Her anxiety, her fears about the future, her love of school and her family… I just related to so much of her experience. Though she is plus-sized, she doesn’t hate her body or want to change it, and that isn’t her […]

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Blogs I Adore!

Posted August 14, 2018 by Madalyn / 12 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is our top ten book blogs or bookish websites. This is by no means an exhaustive list of book blogs I love; these are just a few of the blogs that, if I see a new post from them in my blog reader, I will almost always click it. <3 (I would love to do a part two to this post, so let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in seeing!) madalyn’s list Bookmark Lit (Lauren) Lauren’s blog is one of the first ones I followed when I started blogging, and it has […]

ARC Review: The Looking Glass by Janet McNally

ARC Review: The Looking Glass by Janet McNally

Going into The Looking Glass, I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect. I knew it featured some of my very favorite things– ballerinas, a road trip, hints of magic, and Fleetwood Mac. However, I didn’t expect the beautiful writing or how much of a hidden gem it would be. The story follows our protagonist, Sylvie Blake, as she tries to both process her sister Julia’s year-long disappearance and uphold Julia’s impressive legacy at the prestigious ballet school she attends. On her birthday, Sylvie receives mail from Julia– the first anyone has heard from her in a year. Julia has sent her a book of fairytales beloved by both of the sisters as children. Sylvie finds a drawing in the […]
