Weekly Novel Rewind (29)

Posted April 29, 2018 by Madalyn / 10 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates Hi, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. I am excited to say that I am officially done with another semester of college! I took my last final this week. Other than finals, I had a fun week! Monday night, my best friend and I went to Trixie Mattel at the Atlanta performance on her Now with Moving Parts Tour. It was such a fun show! Trixie is even more beautiful in person, and I loved getting to hear some of her music performed live. They even had a signature cocktail for the night called the […]

ARC Review: All of This Is True by Lygia Day Peñaflor

ARC Review: All of This Is True by Lygia Day Peñaflor

Thanks so much to Alice @ Arctic Books for hosting an ARC tour of All of This Is True and letting me participate! I was extremely excited to read All of This Is True— it received some awesome early reviews, the premise sounded mysterious and twisty, and the hype has been steadily ramping up in the blogging community. However, this book ended up being a bit of a letdown for me. This story follows four teenagers who calculatedly befriend their favorite YA author, only to find out later that the author has used their lives as the premise of her new book. All of This Is True is told from four perspectives: Miri (through interviews), Penny (also through interviews), Soleil (through […]

Favorite Books with Mental Health Rep | April Monthly Recommendations

Posted April 24, 2018 by Madalyn / 17 Comments

Monthly Recommendations is a Goodreads group created and hosted by Kayla Rayne @ Kayla Rayne and Trina @ Between Chapters. I used to do these videos when I was on BookTube, and I really miss them, so I’ve decided to try to do them on the blog every month. April’s topic is books with mental health rep! As a person who deals with mental illness myself, this topic is near and dear to my heart. It’s also an area where I’m always looking for more recommendations! However, I compiled a list of ten books that I felt got mental illness right. I rated all of these books four stars or higher. Let’s get into my picks! madalyn’s recommendations (Covers link to Goodreads) Queens of Geek […]

Weekly Novel Rewind (28)

Posted April 21, 2018 by Madalyn / 11 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates Hi guys! It’s just me on the rewind today– Bee is taking a mini blogging break this week. (No worries; she’ll be back soon!) This week was pretty boring, honestly– lots of school and work and other mundane things– but I am happy to say that now, only one final stands between me and summer! Also, next week is shaping up to be a fun one. My best friend and I bought tickets to see Trixie Mattel on her Now with Moving Parts Tour on Monday; Thursday I’m going to a graduation party; Friday […]

The LOVE, SIMON Book Tag!

Posted April 19, 2018 by Madalyn / 16 Comments

Hi, everyone! Today, I’m here to do the Love, Simon book tag, which was created by Kathleen @ Worth a Thousand Words. (Speaking of which, Kathleen is one of my favorite newer BookTube discoveries, and I definitely recommend subscribing to her channel!) I of course adore both Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda AND its film adaptation, which I’ve now seen three times. It might be my favorite ever book-to-movie adaptation, honestly. This tag consists of nine questions that correspond to scenes from the film. Don’t worry, though– it’s spoiler-free for people who haven’t seen the film or read the book! If you have, though, you’ll catch the allusions. 🙂 tag questions I like your boots: Talk about a cringey […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Spy with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke

Waiting on Wednesday: The Spy with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. It’s a feature where we show off one of our most anticipated upcoming book releases. Where we tend to add more books to your never-ending TBR. madalyn’s waiting on… why i’m waiting Hi, yes, I need this book yesterday. The Girl with the Red Balloon was my very favorite book of last year, and this companion sounds just as incredible. It’s about queer Jewish siblings! And the nuclear arms race! And BALLOON MAGIC! I can’t wait to learn more about the magic in this world. By the way, this is technically a prequel to Girl with the Red Balloon— it takes place in the same world, but with completely different characters– […]

Weekly Novel Rewind (27)

Posted April 14, 2018 by Madalyn / 14 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates madalyn: This week passed pretty uneventfully on my end! I suddenly have five more hours of free time every week because choir is done for the semester, so that’s been weird (but also pretty nice). Consequently, I got a lot of time to read and relax. Thursday night, my best friend and I drank an entire bottle of wine and watched the new episode of Drag Race, which was tons of fun– she normally works on Thursday nights, so this is the first time all season we’ve gotten to watch a new ep together and fangirl. […]

Review: Obsidio by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Review: Obsidio by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Okay so this is going to be a kind of unpopular opinion but I wasn’t blown away by Obsidio. It’s a solid finale, don’t get me wrong, but this series deserved better to me. I won’t make this review very long because there are so many of them out there already and I want to keep it spoiler free for the whole series in case you haven’t started it yet. (Which you should, just FYI.) First off, I did still enjoy this! It was a good book. Just… not at the level I was expecting it to be. Illuminae blew my mind when I first read it and when Gemina came out and it was almost just as awesome, I […]

How My Reading Preferences Have Changed

Posted April 12, 2018 by Madalyn / 17 Comments

Hi, everyone! Today, I’m here with a discussion post. I’ve noticed some fairly significant and (I think) interesting changes in my reading habits and preferences in the past couple years, and I wanted to put them to paper today! As for the reasons for these changes, I think some of them have to do with being in college, some of them are just natural changes (I am, in fact, a human), and many of them are probably due to blogging. Anyway, let’s get into the list! I read more physical books. Fun fact: I got my first Kindle when I was 14, and from then up until the past year or so, I read almost solely on my e-reader. I […]

Weekly Novel Rewind (26)

Posted April 7, 2018 by Madalyn / 16 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates madalyn: Hi, everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week. This week was a bittersweet one for me, because Thursday night was my last concert with my university choir. After four years of singing with this choir for five hours every week and traveling all over the world with them, this ensemble and the people in it have truly become my home and my heart. I can’t believe it’s over. Otherwise, this week was pretty laid-back. I got to spend a lot of time with my friends, which was a welcome change. Book Haul madalyn: Bought: […]
