ARC Review: Everything Must Go by Jenny Fran Davis

Thanks so much to St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an e-ARC of this book! Everything Must Go was certainly not the book I expected, from start to finish. However, the book I actually got was a bit of a hidden gem. This book was smart, funny, and feminist. It’s definitely one of the more *~intelligent~* YA contemporaries I’ve read recently, but the writing never took itself too seriously or came off as pretentious. This is a story about making mistakes and somehow finding yourself along the way. One thing I adored about Everything Must Go was the format. The story is told through a collection of documents, from letters, to emails, to journal entries, to blog posts. (Side note: […]

Weekly Novel Rewind (12)

Posted September 16, 2017 by Madalyn / 11 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates I’m sorry the blog has been so quiet this week! The week got off to a weird start, both because of Hurricane Irma and because I was still in a sort-of reading slump… neither of which was very conducive to blogging, haha. Luckily, though, both of those things are gone now! I was super lucky not to feel any of the negative effects of the storm, aside from a lot of wind and rain. My parents (who evacuated from their house in Florida) and I all went to stay with my stepbrother and his wife, […]

Blog Tour: SPEAK EASY, SPEAK LOVE by McKelle George | Review, Favorite Quotes, + Giveaway!

Hello and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Speak Easy, Speak Love! This was one of my most highly-anticipated fall 2017 releases (and one of my most-anticipated debuts of the year), and I’m so happy to be a part of this tour. Read on for my full thoughts, some favorite quotes, and a giveaway! review Oh my goodness, what a refreshingly unique book! Speak Easy, Speak Love had so many of my favorite things going for it– 1920’s New York setting, Shakespeare retelling, hate-to-love romance, a lovable cast of characters– and I’m so happy to say that it delivered on all its promise. Like I mentioned above, this book is a retelling of Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado […]

Weekly Novel Rewind (11)

Posted September 9, 2017 by Madalyn / 13 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap-up post. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Updates I hope everyone had a lovely and relaxing long weekend! I had the best time in Orlando at BookNet Fest– my wrap up for that went up earlier this week, if you wanna check out what I got up to there! School- and life-wise, this was a quiet week, for the most part. It’s looking more and more like Hurricane Irma might hit my city, so I’m keeping an eye on that going into the weekend. I’ll probably go wait out the storm at my brother’s house in the suburbs instead of staying in my […]

ARC Review: Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

ARC Review: Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

Trigger warnings for rape/sexual assault Well, this was a fun, feminist read! Upon finishing it, my first thought was, “man, I wish Moxie had existed when I was in high school.” I wish I could go back in time and give a copy of this book to every girl in my rural-small-town, conservative high school who told me feminism equated to hating men, or that they “believed in equal rights, but didn’t consider themselves feminists.” Moxie follows our protagonist, Viv, as she, fed up with the casual sexism at her high school and inspired by memorabilia from her mom’s Riot Grrrl days, decides to write and anonymously distribute a feminist zine to all the girls in her high school. This is a […]

Event Recap: BookNet Fest 2017

Posted September 5, 2017 by Madalyn / 15 Comments

Hi everyone! In case you missed it, I attended the first annual BookNet Fest in Orlando, FL over Labor Day Weekend. BookNet Fest is the brainchild of two wonderful women (and two of my personal favorite creators)– Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes and Marines @ MyNameIsMarines. The idea behind the event was to celebrate the bookish internet in all its forms– BookTube, book blogs, bookstagram, book twitter, etc. It was open to both creators as well as consumers of bookish online content (so, anyone can attend!). I knew because of who created BookNet Fest that it would be fantastic, but you guys, I think this event is truly, truly special. It offers something totally new to this community that we […]
