Today I’m linking up with the awesome Beautiful People link-up, hosted by the fabulous Cait @ Paper Fury and Sky @ Further Up and Further to talk about my current writing project. I’ve got more than just this, of course, but I’ll share more about those in the future. So first, I’m gonna share a bit more about this project and then I’ll answer the questions! ARC Review: Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin

ARC Review: Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin

Aftercare Instructions is one of those books that, in the days since I finished it, keeps creeping into my thoughts time and time again. I can’t stop thinking about this book. On one hand, it wasn’t at all the book I expected. On the other, I think it represents a vastly important addition to YA lit. I apologize in advance if my review seems jumbled– I’m finding it incredibly hard to pinpoint what exactly makes this book so special. I also believe this is the type of story you need to go into a bit blind; knowing too much about the plot could ruin the reading experience for you. Therefore, I’ll try not to say too much about the actual events […]

More Queer Book Recommendations! | Pride 2017

Posted June 19, 2017 by Madalyn / 7 Comments

Hello, friends, and welcome to post number two in a series of posts I have planned for Pride Month! In case you missed the first post, I recommended books that feature f/f romances. Today, I thought I’d expand off of that and recommend some more books that feature LGBTQIAP+ characters. If a book title has an * next to it, that means it’s #ownvoices (the author shares the same gender identity or sexuality as the character). I highly recommend prioritizing #ownvoices stories in your reading when it comes to buying and reading books about people on the LGBTQIAP+ spectrum. Without further ado, let’s talk about some books! Just a note: while I have plenty of favorite LGBTQIAP+ side characters/romances (Rhy from […]

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Recs for the Father Figures in My Life

Posted June 13, 2017 by Madalyn / 4 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is a Father’s Day freebie, so I decided to go along similar lines to what I did with the Mother’s Day freebie last month and recommend books to the father figures in my life! You might notice that “father figures” is plural. That’s because I wanted to recommend books to both my dad and my stepdad. Without getting too personal, my relationship with both of these men in my life is very different, but they both played a huge role in growing my lifelong love of reading. Let’s get into the recs, shall we? madalyn’s top ten For my dad:   A History of the World […]

Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland

Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland

Bee’s Thoughts   I was initially hesitant to read Our Chemical Hearts because of the many kind of mixed reviews I’d seen for it. But then yesterday I thought… what the hell. I’m going to read this. Because it sounds good and I like male pov books and I like contemporary. So I read it. And wouldn’t you know it? I loved this book to the moon and back. It is glorious and my first 5-star read in two months so that should say something. I loved everything about this book. The writing was beautiful, the story was heartbreaking and wonderful and stabbed me in the feels and the characters were gloriously real. It just really, really got to me, […]
