ARC Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

ARC Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

Jeff Zentner’s debut novel, The Serpent King, was far and away my favorite 2016 debut I read. So, of course, I had extremely high hopes going into his sophomore novel, Goodbye Days. Overall, I was not disappointed! I had a few minor gripes with the novel (and, who knows, they’re things that could change from the ARC to the finished copy), but Zentner has retained his spot on my list of auto-buy authors. I’ll be up front with you: no book has made me cry as much as Goodbye Days in a long, long time. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I spent at least a quarter of my reading experience bawling my eyes out. The premise itself is […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. It’s a feature where we show off one of our most anticipated reads of the year. Where we tend to add more books to your never-ending TBR. madalyn’s waiting on… why i’m waiting Every Heart a Doorway was one of my favorite reads of last year. It absolutely enchanted me and made my heart ache. I can’t wait to be back in this world. This is a prequel that follows the twins, Jack and Jill, during their time in the world they entered, which sounded both interesting and terrifying– I’m intrigued to learn more. We didn’t get to experience any of the characters’ worlds firsthand in Every Heart a Doorway, so […]

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel

Before I say anything else, let me say this. This book is seriously dark and it will not be for everyone. The things that happen in this book are disgusting and the fact that everyone acted like it was no biggie made this a very difficult read for me and it’s something that will turn a lot of readers off. With that being said, the writing and the mystery is what kept me going even though I was seriously disgusted with most of these characters. It’s no secret that I loved Engels YA duology, The Book of Ivy, so when I saw another book with her name on it, I immediately added it to my TBR without first reading the […]

Christy’s Novel Rewind (20)

Posted February 18, 2017 by Christy / 7 Comments

Novel Rewind is our version of a weekly wrap up post.  The three of us will be alternating weeks. We will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. Life Happenings I always struggle with this section on the Rewind posts because I feel like I say the same things over and over again because my life isn’t that exciting haha so I think I’ll skip it this time because I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my exciting nurse, wife and mom life haha. Book Haul Bought: I got all of these hardcovers on BookOutlet and I’m so excited for them! I’ve already read Blackbird and while I didn’t love it, I’m still going to read Deadfall […]

He Will Be My Ruin: K.A. Tucker || My Re-Read Review

He Will Be My Ruin: K.A. Tucker || My Re-Read Review

I don’t re-read often, but when I was asked to review the new paperback I was all for it. Having re-read this book has made me want to start re-reading more. It allows you to catch some things you didn’t necessarily see before and it allows you to feel some things you didn’t feel before. It’s quite awesome. Now, into the actual review of the book. This book, even the second time around, was just as thrilling and mind-blowing as before. Even though I knew what was going to happen I was still captivated from beginning to end. The first time I read this one I was completely wrong with what was going on or who did what. Now, with […]

5 Reasons You Should Read ‘Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World’

5 Reasons You Should Read ‘Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World’

Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World is an absolutely delightful, insightful anthology comprised of essays, poems, illustrations, comics, playlists, and more, all centered around– you guessed it– feminism. I find books like this to be difficult to review, so I thought I’d switch it up and simply list some reasons I think everyone should read this book! five reasons you should read it It’s intersectional AF. Not only does Here We Are address intersectionality and its importance in modern feminism, but the anthology itself just… is intersectional, through and through. From the diverse contributors, to the general stance this book takes on feminist issues, it truly promotes a feminism for all women, not just the exclusionary white feminism we see […]

Say no more! Plus, I think the author is local to me, which always makes me even more excited to read an already-highly-anticipated release. Are you also looking forward to The Gallery of Unfinished Girls? What book are you waiting on this week?

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

You Don’t Know My Name by Kristen Orlando

This book called to me when I read the summary, it sounds exactly like the type of book that I would like.  I mean, a book about a top secret agency? Yes, please! But this book was so much more than I  was hoping for. Reagan is no stranger to lies, in fact lying to the people around her, parents excluded, is pretty much the only thing she’s ever known.  You see, her parents are part of a top secret government agency called the Black Angels.  As you can imagine, living in that world isn’t very safe so Reagan and her family have had to move and switch identities, a lot.  For Reagan though, Ohio is different, these friends are […]
