As I Descended by Robin Talley

As I Descended by Robin Talley

my thoughts I picked up As I Descended as one of my reads for the #DiverseAThon readathon that happened a few weeks ago, and I’m extremely glad I did. It’s a paranormal retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth set in a Southern boarding school, and the four POV characters all fall somewhere on the LGBTQIAPD+ spectrum. Macbeth is my favorite Shakespeare play, and I thought the retelling was done in such a clever way! There are lots of blink-and-you’ll-miss-them references to the source material thrown in, and I was LIVING for it. I wasn’t sure how loose of a retelling this book would be, but it stuck to the plot of Macbeth almost exactly. That being said, you definitely don’t have to have read […]

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

I’m seriously kicking myself for letting the hype keep me from reading this book as soon as it was released.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved ACOTAR and after finishing it I couldn’t wait for the release of A Court of Mist and Fury, but THE HYPE.  It got to me.  Well, that and the length of the book. big books scare me.  So I let myself put it off.  I was such a fool. This book, you guys.  I just finished it and my heart, I just can’t even take it.  This book took my emotions on a rollercoaster and shattered everything I thought I knew going in.  And I loved it.  I seriously don’t even know what to […]

Waiting on Wednesday: History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine. It’s a feature where we show off one of our most anticipated reads of the year. Where we tend to add more books to your never-ending TBR. madalyn’s waiting on why I’m waiting I loved Adam’s debut novel, More Happy Than Not, and I’m so excited to read more of his writing! Also, Adam is one of the nicest (and tallest!) humans I’ve ever met– I always have wonderful, genuine conversations with him at events. All that to say, History was on my autobuy list already, because Adam, but it’s also been getting starred reviews left and right recently. So many people whom I trust have been raving about this one, and I […]

Top Ten Tuesday: Music Edition

Posted September 20, 2016 by Madalyn / 16 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is an All About Audio freebie, so I decided to spotlight ten of my all-time favorite albums. I’m definitely an “album person”– meaning, if I like an artist, I don’t just listen to a few of their songs, I listen to their albums, with all the songs played in order. I especially love concept albums (as you’ll see below). I think it must be my linear mind. 😉 Anyway, it was SO difficult to pick just ten for this list; I might have to make a part two sometime! madalyn’s top ten And a very special bonus number eleven… My amazing choir recorded this […]

Blog Tour & Giveaway | Interview with Erin Bow

Posted September 19, 2016 by Erica / 4 Comments

Welcome to my stop on The Swan Riders blog tour! Today I will be sharing the lovely interview that I had with Erin Bow. I hope you enjoy. Also, stick around for the giveaway at the end!! interview time Q1. Did you always think you were going to continue on or did you think The Scorpion Rules would be a standalone? A1. I totally thought The Scorpion Rules would stand alone.  In fact I still think it could – it has an ending and it wraps up its own arc nicely.  But toward the end of my first draft, I wrote certain  (It’s the one called consent.) I both discovered an ending for The Scorpion Rules and found a whole […]

Erica’s Novel Rewind #1

Posted September 18, 2016 by Erica / 6 Comments

So technically this isn’t my first novel rewind, but I just kind of want to start fresh with it so I’m naming it my first….cause I can 😛 Life Happenings: So, since the last time I have done one of these a lot has happened, but I’m just gonna talk about things going on in my head right now and whatever comes to my mind while writing. So, I have been in a terrible slump. I haven’t been reading much lately. It usually boils down to blog tour reads. I won’t even touch my review copies for some awful reason, but I hope that once I get back to Georgia (which is in four days) I will get back into […]

Blog Tour & GIVEAWAY || The Lost and the Found: Cat Clarke

Blog Tour & GIVEAWAY || The Lost and the Found: Cat Clarke

my thoughts A contemporary, mystery/thriller? Heck yes. This genre was one I used to avoid like the plague. I get freaked out a lot when reading thrillers because they make my brain go crazy, but boy, have they been blowing me away lately. I have been really enjoying thrillers and this one didn’t let me down. Now it isn’t going to be a complete favorite of mine, but it kept me interested, on my toes, and going what the hell throughout the whole entire book! Now, I loved the twists and turns in this novel, but the thing that made me really enjoy this read is the MC. She was the only character that I wholeheartedly enjoyed. Every other character […]

Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown

Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown

my thoughts Of all of the amazing LGBTQIA+ books coming out this fall, Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit was the one I was most looking forward to reading– so much so that my friend Megan and decided to host a readalong for it this month (it lasts through the end of September if you guys are interested in participating!). And, I must say, this book did not disappoint. Georgia Peaches explores some interesting questions– how can you grow and thrive in a new place without the option to be completely yourself? Are faith and progressivism mutually exclusive? How much of your own happiness are you willing to– or is it healthy to– sacrifice for the people you love? Though the premise is […]
